BASTION
Bastion, red gum and steel bolt. 2018. This piece is loosely inspired by the development on either side of the Northcote Anarchist Society in Melbourne. A building which refused to budge when blocks on either side of it were demolished and developed into high density apartments. This is a story happening all over Melbourne. As populations increase and demand for land grows in unprecedented amounts, there is an often tense relationship the emerges between the old and new. This piece inspects how these relationships evolve, settle and shift over time.
This piece was created for and exhibited at the Uncontrolled Development exhibition at Brunswick Street Gallery, 2019.
